GUIDANCE FROM THE IRS

Consider whether one of your family or friends would find your donation useful if you passed it on to them. That's a good rule of thumb to use when you make a decision to contribute second-hand items to any organization.

We offer pick up services for donations that include furniture items in good to great condition with no missing pieces, tears or stains (excluding mattresses and items that are too heavy)- or for large loads pre-qualified by customer service. Lead time can range from 2-4 weeks depending on when you call and are based on your zip code and our fixed truck routes.

We encourage donors, if at all possible, to bring their donations to one of our
STORES or DONATION CENTERS conveniently located throughout metro San Diego County.

If you have a large donation, health issues or some other compelling reason why you require a pick up, please contact our TRANSPORTATION MANAGER (Monday-Friday) at 619-225-2200 or 888-446-6394 (toll free within San Diego County) ext 607 to discuss the alternatives.

With the cost of gas, labor, insurance, maintenance, and the resale value of goods we receive as donations, in many situations it is not economically feasible for us to offer free home pick up or to offer pick up in the more rural parts of San Diego County.


We depend on the income from the sale of donations to provide the revenue we need to operate our PAID TRAINING PROGRAMS and our FREE COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT SERVICES. San Diego's Goodwill doesn't solicit the public for cash or hold fundraising events so it it critical for us to maximize the return on our resources.

Items like built in appliances, refrigerators, stoves, spas, and a variety of other items may not accepted as donations, due to restrictions in state and local laws or the cost to dispose of items we know we cannot sell or recycle. ALTERNATE RECYCLING SITES.

Please be sure to make the customer service representative aware of ALL of the categories of items included in your donation, so that you won’t be surprised if there is anything we cannot accept.

COMPUTERS/ELECTRONICS:

Under normal circumstances we do not offer home or office pick up of donations of computers and electronic items, but we do accept them (working or not) at all of our STORES and DONATION CENTERS. These items are recycled and do not provide enough revenue to cover the cost of sending a truck out to pick them up.

State law requires that if your donation includes any COMPUTERS, TELEVISIONS, PORTABLE DVD PLAYERS OTHER ITEMS WITH A CRT, LED, LCD OR PLASMA SCREEEN, someone must be at home (or office) at the time of pick up to complete all of the information required by law.
