Connecting people to opportunities: Brian and Human Resources
Goodwill’s mission is to provide employment and training opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Our Human Resources team helps make this possible by efficiently recruiting and matching job-seekers to employers. Our HR Recruitment Manager, Brian, has played a major role in developing our HR department.
Prior to joining Goodwill, Brian garnered six years of experience as a recruiter for staffing agencies. Then, he applied to an HR Recruiter position for Goodwill. He was swiftly promoted to HR Recruitment Coordinator, then promoted again to HR Recruitment Manager. When he started in 2013, his department only had a few temporary recruiters. In the midst of advancing his own career, Brian also devoted himself to building a cohesive team which now consists of four recruiters and a clerk.
“I’ve never worked for an organization where I felt my voice was heard as much as it is with Goodwill,” said Brian.
He advises new hires to be open to putting time into a new position, even if they think they are over-qualified or would prefer a different position. “I think that good work is recognized and rewarded here at Goodwill. If you come from a place where you were a manager or a supervisor at a different organization but you’re being hired here for an entry-level position… allow yourself to be humbled. I see promotions happening all the time within the organization. Allow yourself to be flexible.”
On weekends, Brian enjoys being outdoors with his four and two-year-old sons. His family spends time exploring the Zoo, Seaworld, Legoland, and local museums. Brian has expertly balanced work life and the challenges of parenthood, all while maintaining an infectious smile.
For those seeking to make a difference in the community or to gain valuable job experience, Goodwill is always accepting online applications.
