DIY No-Sew Cut Out Tank Top
Whether you are a mom yourself or are looking for a special gift to create for your mom this mother’s day, this DIY no-sew triangle cut out tank top project is perfect for staying trendy this spring! The first thing you will need to do is find the ideal shirt that you want to use for your project. We recommend a tank top with a relatively high neckline so that when you make the cutouts they don’t go too far down the front of the shirt, you ideally want the cut-outs to be in the upper part of the chest. You can pick out a shirt shirt with or without a graphic, but if you choose a graphic tee don’t be afraid of cutting right over the graphic, it will just make the shirt more interesting. For this project we choose this cool black elephant shirt with gold foil. Follow the steps below to make your own DIY No-Sew Cut Out Tank Top.
Supplies Needed:
- Tank Top
- Scissors
- Masking Tape
- Ruler
Step #1
Pick out a shirt and then lay the shirt out on a flat surface. Make sure there are not any wrinkles in the shirt.
Step #2
Mark the center of the shirt with a ruler.
Step #3
Use Masking Tape, make a triangle slightly below the edge of the collar with the bottom point lined up with the center of the shirt. It’s ok if your triangle covers part of the shirt graphic.
Step #4
Cut 4 – 5 slits in the shirt within the triangle, following the pattern below. The first cut will follow the top edge of the tape, the second should be about an inch below the first, and the third and inch below the second, etc… As the cuts move downward, they should get progressively smaller, make sure to end the cuts at the edge of the tape.
Step #5
Remove the masking tape.
Step #6
The cuts should naturally open up when the tape has been removed. Wear and enjoy!
