Goodwill San Diego has been busy transforming our old San Ysidro Outlet, located at 630 Front Street, into a beautiful, functional Community Employment Center. The Community Employment Center is on target to open in early September. This new space will have an Employment Center with state-of-the-art computers and resource materials to help job seekers with their job search, résumé updates, and interview preparation. Our Employment Center’s primary function is to be a resource to the community. We are committed to developing the ability of our job seekers through soft skills development workshops and our Job Readiness Program. We’re anticipating wonderful outcomes for job seekers, as well as our ambassadors, who use the facility and services to improve their employability. This site also has a wonderful Goodwill Retail Store full of treasures!

In 2012, Jessee Diaz began his career at Goodwill San Diego as a participant of the Paid Training Program. After successfully completing the program, Jesse worked at the La Mesa Retail Store as a salesperson. Jesse demonstrated a highly productive attitude, was a great team collaborator, and it was not long before he was promoted to Senior Salesperson!
Jessee continuously participated in Learning and Development trainings in order to further grow his knowledge, skills, and abilities. He completed classes on how to handle difficult customers and how to communicate effectively. In 2015, Jessee was again promoted – this time to Bookstore Key-holder. In this position, Jessee was responsible for assisting the management team in the daily operations of the store and supervised booksellers.
Jessee participated in Supervisor Training and the Leadership Series classes in pursuit of growth and career advancement. He was promoted to Assistant Bookstore Manager in 2017 and in that role Jessee was instrumental in exceeding the Del Cerro Bookstore’s revenue goal by 9.5%. This translated into an extra $22,923 to support the organization’s mission! In 2017, Jessee also completed the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People training and provided effective leadership to the Del Cerro staff by giving feedback and incorporating his newly gained leadership knowledge.
On April 21 of this year, Jessee earned the position of Bookstore Manager at Del Cerro. We are looking forward to Jessee’s future accomplishments.
ESCONDIDO RETAIL STORE AND DONATION CENTER
Our Escondido Retail Store is one of our largest North County locations with a second floor mezzanine dedicated to books, media and boutique/higher quality clothing and home goods merchandise. The store provides an elevator and a register on the second level for customer access and ease of shopping. With more than 7,00 square feet of selling space, this location is sure to please any shopper.
Many Ambassadors at this location have worked with us for many years. Most of our regular shoppers tend to think of them as family. In early 2016, this store had a portion of their roof cave in during unusually heavy rainfall. It was so comforting to see our staff, the community and vendors pull together to support our mission and get us up and running in only a couple short months.
