GOODWILL INDUSTRIES OF SAN DIEGO COUNTY TO PARTNER WITH ARCO® IN FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Donate at the Pump Event from October 7 – November 15

 

SAN DIEGO – Goodwill Industries of San Diego County is pleased to have been selected by ARCO® to partner in a fundraising campaign to further its mission.  Beginning on October 7, ARCO gas station and ampm customers will be able to make cash contributions to Goodwill at the pump. The ARCO stations will host community fundraising events that include giveaways and also launch a co-branded marketing campaign designed to bring awareness about Goodwill and its mission to provide training and employment opportunities to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.

118 ARCO sites in San Diego and Imperial Counties will be participating in the fundraising event. ARCO, its station and ampm owners recognize the significance in “A hand up, not a hand out.” ARCO believes in the power of work and wants to stand behind Goodwill and its programs that provide skill development and job search assistance. Goodwill currently employs more than 1,300 people in San Diego County, 49.4% are people with disabilities and other barriers. Other barriers include but are not limited to Veterans, at-risk youth and young adults, people that do not have any work experience, or those that learned English as a second language and more. Goodwill has programs that are customized to meet the unique needs of these individuals.

Goodwill offers a 3 month, part-time Paid Training Program. Interested individuals can apply at any Goodwill Community Employment Center or online at sdgoodwill.org.

Goodwill Industries of San Diego County is a local non-profit that is changing lives by getting people jobs.  Goodwill’s Community Employment Center staff, through training, work with community members on their résumés, job applications and interviewing skills.  We also partner with many local companies to conduct job fairs and get people to work.

GISD retail locations are known for selling quality used merchandise.  This includes clothing, shoes, home décor, housewares, and furniture.  Electronics and sporting goods are available at select locations. GISD uses the revenue generated from the sale of donated goods at its retail stores and after-market facilities to support the operation of paid job training programs and employment services.
