The president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of San Diego County has been honored for her contributions to professional development within the organization.
Toni Giffin, who established a new career pathway program while reinvigorating a paid training program, received the P.J. Trevethan Award, presented annually to a Goodwill CEO for outstanding support for the training of in-house personnel.
In 2016, Giffin launched a career pathway program to give employees a defined,four-step process to prepare for and advance from entry-level to management positions. More than 100 employees have successfully completed the program to date.
Upon taking the helm, Giffin also brought back a paid training program that provides three months of retail training for those with significant challenges to finding employment. Nearly 80 employees have taken part in the paid training. The local Goodwill also provides a three-year training program to help people with developmental disabilities transition to independent work environments. Last year, the organization helped 42 people do so.
“Toni’s advocacy for the education and training of her colleagues comes from her desireto see people thrive in their lives and careers,” said Steven C. Preston, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “She supports their training goals and lifts upher community in the process.”
Goodwill Industries International operates in a network of 155 community-based, autonomous organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
